Hey guys, I found this shader some guy made that has a falloff to it. This fall off displaces grass in front of the camera and the grass in the distance isn't displaced. The render time is amazing! This is the Best shader I have found. Also there is a aerial material that pops up when you are at a certain distance away from the grass. So check it out, it's hard for me to explain.
http://3dsmaxrendering.blogspot.com/...ss-shader.html **Also V-ray Info- "You could use this for v-ray as well, but it's really optimized for mental ray with the mr photographic exposure control (the reason the maps in the output are so dark)." Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Not sure where shaders go. Last edited by punkman220; April 9th, 2009 at 10:32 AM. |

Yeah , its a clever use of the distance option of the falloff map . The further away you are , it uses a displacement map that practically has no displacement ( therefore hardly any calculations ) , but when u get closer , it is slowly replaced with a more detailed displacement map . It also seems that he replaces the grass maps as well , which kinda changes the colors of the grass half way through the clip but that is a small sacrifice I think . Nice tip there
. Thx for sharing mate Edit : You can definitely take advantage of it even in Vray .
